Herrington Lake—Kentucky’s Marvel of Architecture, Waterpower & Nature is the first ever book to detail the legacy of this historic, 100-year-old reservoir which helped shape aspects of Kentucky’s history in the early 20th century. The book was written with support from Kentucky utilities and the Kentucky Dept of Fish & Wildlife. Within the 152 pages of this 9x12” hardback are 6 chapters, each with a forwarding essay which are accompanied by over 200 original, primary source photographs and documents, over 130 of which have likely never been seen by the public. The historic overview begins with a detailed biography of Lewis Herrington, for whom the lake takes its name. Chapters 2 and 3 detail the construction of the dam and bridges and the final three chapters are devoted to the early settlements—or camps—from 1925-1960, the villages, and the biology and history of the lake as a fishery. All in all, the book provides a solid overview of the lake’s history coupled with nostalgic overtones that stem from the accompanying illustrations.
The author has set-up a non-profit, benefit agreement with the Herrington Lake Conservation League. Profits from any book signing & lecture noted on this webpage are donated to the Conservation League to preserve this natural resource.
